If you know me, this picture probably looks a little bit weird. It’s Willa Hahn. In a…pageant??
I’ve been acting and singing on stage for just about my entire life, but I’d never done a pageant before (partially because of my mom. She said it was because she didn’t want me to have to compete to see if I was the most beautiful. But… we all know that I already know that I am.) But this year while watching Miss America, I decided that I had to do it (and when I get an idea in my head, I can’t let it go.) So I entered the Miss Berkeley County Pageant.
I really wasn’t sure what to expect. Obviously there are some stereotypes with pageants and pageant girls, and I was a little bit afraid that the girls would be catty or competitive.
My pageant week ended up being really fun though. The other girls in the competition were all really nice– everyone was encouraging and helpful, and I had a lot of fun. I thought that being up on stage in front of everyone (especially in a bikini) would be a little bit more nerve wracking, but once the crowd started cheering, it was hard not to have fun.
I ended up taking away the Runner-Up, Best Talent, and People’s Choice (thanks to my parents. They went a little overboard with the donation jars…) in my division, and I’ll even be competing in another pageant (Miss West Virginia Sweeps) in just a few weeks.
