Finals week is here and as usual I am procrastinating, but at least doing so thoughtfully. I still can’t believe that in less than a week, my freshman year of college will be completely behind me. Time doesn’t seem real at college. All of our experiences and relationships are in this strange time warp where everyone feels like they have known each other forever, even though most weeks feel like days.
I have mixed feelings about the year ending. It’s comforting to know that finals week does actually have an end, even though there is a lot standing between me and that end. Everyone else is excited to go home and hang out with all their friends. But I don’t have that to look forward to. I feel like my life started in Ithaca. I was able to invent myself here and find myself again, and going home feels like taking a step back to something and someone that I don’t want to be.
At the same time, I’m glad that this year is over because it means that next year is almost here. Sophomore year is going to be so different from this year… Starting my new major, hopefully getting a lot more involved in campus groups, and moving off campus. I’m most excited to move in with Riley and Jackson next year in our little house. It’s a big change and a big step, but I think it will end up being really good for all of us.
