A new Miss Erie Canal will be crowned on Sunday, and I just want to take a moment to reflect on the past year.
I can't believe it's already been a year since I first started competing for the title of Miss New York. Even though so much has happened--including moving on to my new title of Miss Metropolitan 2016--it seems like just yesterday that I was checking into the Syracuse Best Western for the Miss Syracuse orientation. I had no idea what to expect that weekend, but I'm so glad I took the plunge and decided to compete.
My first year in the Miss New York Organization had its ups and downs, but I'm so proud of all that I was able to accomplish. I was able to bring my platform to Ithaca College and got involved with the League of Women Voters of Tompkins County as their new Secretary so I could bring my platform to the Ithaca community. I attended 30+ community service events. And I made top 11 in my first year of competing for the title of Miss New York. Mostly, I was able to lay the groundwork to make this second year the best year ever, and I have so many exciting platform events coming up because of it!
As the saying goes, it takes a village, and I would be nowhere without my little village. I have lots of people to thank, so my apologies in advance if I leave anyone out of this list. Thank you to everyone who supported me and donated to my Children's Miracle Network fundraiser. Thank you so much to Le Chic Prom and Pageant Boutique for helping me find my dream evening gown, and to Complete Physique for helping me to get into the best shape of my life. Thank you to all of my sponsors, especially Miel Beauty Bar of Ithaca for always making me look and feel my best, and Eskew Consulting who sponsored the Miss Syracuse girls this year and helped us with pageant prep. Thank you to the Miss Syracuse Scholarship Organization for organizing events and pageant prep for all of us. Thank you to my parents, who despite being extremely skeptical of the whole pageant thing have been so supportive. Thank you to all of my family members and friends who made the trek out to Staten Island for the Miss New York pageant. Thank you to my voice teacher, Francesca Aguado, for helping me hit those high notes and reminding me how much I miss performing. And thank you to Kyle Haggerty & Associates for helping me with talent, wardrobe, interview...everything. You are wonderful.
The biggest thank you of all goes out to the Miss New York Class of 2015. I'm so glad that I was able to spend this first year in the Miss New York Organization with two of my best friends, but I'm also thankful for all of the new friendships I made.
This year was both one of the greatest and one of the hardest years of my life. I feel so much more grounded in who I am as a person, and I have a clear vision for what I want this next year to be. And I'm excited to spend this next year as your Miss Metropolitan 2016 with my amazing new directors, princesses, and sisters.
Good luck to all the ladies competing for Miss Syracuse on Sunday! I'll be there cheering you on!
