Every year I’ve been in college, time has seemed to speed up more and more. And even though it feels like I just got here and am still figuring everything out, here I am facing my fifth finals week of college, halfway through my junior year.
By now, I thought I’d have everything figured out about school and my future. But of course, I don’t. I feel like I used to have everything figured out–through high school I had the perfect grades and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my future. But now that first part is definitely not true, and what I want to do with my future changes daily.
But I am learning and growing, and I think that’s what’s important. My grades might not be perfect all the time and I certainly have to work a lot harder than I used to, but I’ve had some amazing experiences over the last year with my internship at Channel 34 News, and now as an intern with Ithaca College’s Media Relations department. I’m not sure if I’ll end up in either of the fields I’ve interned in, but they’ve given me great work experience that I know will be valuable to me in whatever I end up doing with my life.
And now, I may have a chance to embark on another experience, interning in Washington, DC. I haven’t heard for sure yet, but I got to the final round of interviews for an internship in the Spring Semester with a company that I would be really, really excited to work for. If I get it, I’ll be interning in DC from January through May, returning to Ithaca once a month or so for appearances and to hang out with friends. I’ll be gritting my teeth all week until I hear back for sure, but I’ll honestly be happy either way because I’ll either be spending a few months in a great city next year getting a really great, new experience, or I’ll return to Ithaca after break and finish out my junior year and continue my job as IC’s Media Relations intern.
This is a really nerve-wracking time, but it’s also really exciting. I’m glad to be in a place that I love getting so many great experiences. I just can’t believe I only have 2 (or maybe 1) semesters left on the Ithaca campus.
